A Little Voice

M asked me how to extract DoubleValues from cells for Spreasheet Java lab exercise. I did that part by trial and error. I did not fully understand how to use inner classes and the visitor method. Knowing how bad my explanation would be, I told M to ask a lab helper instead.

On the way home, I thought about it. I should have asked a lab helper on the spot with M. I could have learnt together with a friend, instead of turning a friend’s request down.

My action showed that I was not humble to learn. I stopped learning and asking when I finished the coursework, even if I had not gained full understanding of my solution.

Moreover, a great communicator is able to explain a complicated concept in simple words clearly. If I cannot present an idea in clear and simple words, I lack comprehensive understanding of the idea and effective communication.

In the future, if anyone asks me a question, if I understand the matter well enough, I should be able to explain. If I cannot explain well, I should proceed to find out the answer. “I am bad at explaining/teaching” is not an excuse.

I should also respect and thank anyone that asks me, because the person gives me a check on my understanding and an opportunity to practise communication.

I suspect that a Little Voice is teaching me in my mind. I wait to recognise whose voice it is.
