Words from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button:

Mrs. Maple: Benjamin, we’re meant to lose the people we love. How else would we know how important they are to us?

Captain Mike: You can be as mad as a mad dog at the way things went. You could swear, curse the fates, but when it comes to the end, you have to let go.

Benjamin Button: It’s a funny thing about comin’ home. Looks the same, smells the same, feels the same. You’ll realize what’s changed is you.

Benjamin Button: Sometimes we’re on a collision course, and we just don’t know it. Whether it’s by accident or by design, there’s not a thing we can do about it.

Daisy: Would you still love me if I were old and saggy?

Benjamin Button: Would you still love ME if I were young and had acne? When I’m afraid of what’s under the bed? Or if I end up wetting the bed?

Daisy: What are you thinking?

Benjamin Button: I was thinking how nothing lasts, and what a shame that is.

Benjamin Button: [Voice over; letter to his daughter] For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.

Some people, were born to sit by a river.

Some get struck by lightning.

Some have an ear for music.

Some are artists.

Some swim.

Some know buttons.

Some know Shakespeare.

Some are mothers.

And some people, dance.

Daisy: Will you sleep with me?

Benjamin Button: Absolutely.

Daisy:Goodnight Benjamin.

Benjamin Button: Goodnight Daisy.

Loving you is worth everything to me.

Life is wonderful

Life seems to turn around since the CSC enrichment talk on Monday afternoon. The trouble of holding the newspaper cutting session was removed by the enthusiastic participation of the CSC Reps from the other six classes. I felt so relieved after that. Hopefully that they could keep the passion and be responsible for this activity and carry this spirit on for the rest of the year. Well, the CSC committee’s job cannot complete without their help. I am getting more and more handy with playing the role of President. There are just so many opportunities and challenges out there for me to take on. I shall remain optimistic and confident all the time.

This afternoon Chen Chen and I came back to Nanyang to collect the yellow blazers for SSEF. We also found Mr. Kuo for getting back our poster. There was a strong sense of familiarity in the Nanyang campus. Well, luckily we managed to get the things required in the last minute. However, we are still having trouble with the poster. I really hope that we could be approved to present tomorrow. Being stopped to succeed just before the completion of the last step was heartbreaking to me. God bless us.

Well, I shall take a good look at the poster now. There is one more GP Introduction to write. There’s no end to the tasks assigned everyday. I shall learn to balance my life and work hard. March holiday is coming. SAT revision is starting soon.

Yangfan, Go ahead! You can do everything! I believe in you! At the end of the day, this is life, and it is beautiful and wonderful.

ISSYP application essay

Mar 10, 2009 . PART B: STUDENT ESSAY
I am always curious about the mechanism behind things. Questions begin with “why” are the ones I ask most frequently. To me, theoretical physics is very fascinating since it is about describing the observed behavior of nature in the language of mathematics and simplifying the complicated matters. With the passion to learn and excel, I have mastered the knowledge on physics taught in school. Also, I am capable of performing mathematics calculations effectively, since it serves as a tool to further pursue the knowledge in physics.
In order to better expose myself into the world of physics, I have participated in a variety of courses and programmes.
Besides taking physics in the usual curriculum in both Secondary school and Junior College, I extended my horizon by attending World of Science (Photonics) course from 26 June to 21 August, 2008. This course is part of the Young Defence Scientists Programme, organized by Singapore Defence Science & Technology Agency and DSO National Laboratories. By attending this course, I went a step closer to the world of optics and lasers and acquired some basic knowledge on atomic physics and quantum mechanics.
As experiments and real life applications are part of physics, I equipped myself with research experience by participating in the Science Mentorship Programmes from January to September, 2008. These Programmes are jointly organized by a number of renowned institutions including the Gifted Education Branch, Ministry of Education and Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R, A*STAR). My partner and I took on a science research project named Transparent Bitrate Estimation in Digital Music Coder, under the category of acoustic physics and computer science. Under the guidance of our mentor, Ms. Li Te from I2R, we went trough the complete process of science research and presented our research paper and poster in the Singapore Youth Science Conference, 2008. Our effort was recognized and this project was awarded Distinction. The journey has not ended yet. This project has been short listed to present in the upcoming Singapore Science & Engineering Fair, 2009. This Fair serves as a preliminary round for the International Science & Engineering Fair 2009. Thus, I am given another opportunity to get involved in physics related events.
Besides the abovementioned programmes, I also actively took part in physics enrichment activities in school. In 2007, I chose The Universe and Black Hole as one of my sabbaticals and learnt a lot about the formation of Black Hole and the underlying theoretical Physics. I really enjoyed exploring the beauty of the universe and physics.
Based on my passion and active involvement in Physics related activities, I recognized myself as a committed Physics fan and thus I think I should not miss the ISSYP. I see it as an invaluable opportunity to make like-minded friends, expand my knowledge on theoretical physics and empower myself to be a potential theoretical physicist in the future. I hope to become another Einstein research on time traveling someday.

A place to reflect.

## Mar 8, 2009

Life is becoming busier and busier recently. I am very stressful. Yet I have nobody to pour everything to. There’s even not much time for me to complain. Sometimes certain people around are difficult to deal with. I hope I could cope better. I am struggling, yet striving hard to excel. I will never give up.

This is a personal reflection panel. I do not intend to publicize it. I hope to regain the peace of mind by writing out my thoughts. Soliloque is so fancinating that I could not restrain myself from practicing it.

It’s late. I have had a long day.

Bon soir. Good night.

再见

这里终于正式被废弃. 零柒零捌的记忆.

搬去校内了, 我想我需要一个新的起点.
